St. Mark's Lutheran School provides a strong, standards-based curriculum for grades K-8. As a community of life-long learners, St. Mark's holds high expectations for all students. St. Mark's is committed to glorifying God by providing educational excellence in a safe, nurturing, Christ-centered environment. The rigorous curriculum encourages students to develop critical thinking skills and depth of knowledge and character.

The curriculum and activities at St. Mark's span a wide variety of subjects for students to experience. St. Mark's Lutheran School's philosophy incorporates the belief that each person is a unique individual with God given interests and abilities. By exposing students to a multitude of experiences, students are able to develop their talents, find areas in which to be successful, and develop new interests.

Reading, writing, listening and speaking are a part of every curricular area. "Step Up to Writing", a practical, articulated writing program in grades K-8 provides students with systematic, multi-sensory instruction in expository and narrative writing. The program's strategies give students organizational tools with which to organize ideas, create outlines, summaries and note taking.

St. Mark's science curriculum includes an exciting hands on exploration component at all grade levels. Students are able to apply scientific concepts, in order to see their real life applications.

The diversity of the St. Mark's student population creates unique opportunities for students to explore social studies from many different perspectives. Respect and tolerance for various cultures guide students to deeper understanding of historical events.

Elementary Curriculum

  • The St. Mark's Elementary School serves students in grades K through four.
  • K-4 classrooms are self-contained with one teacher providing instruction in the basic subject areas.
  • Our physical education, vocal music, computer, and art teachers, as well as our librarian, provide specialized instruction.
  • Students may begin instrumental instruction in the fourth grade.
  • Basic Subjects: math, "Hands On Algebra", science, language, reading, writing, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, social studies, religion, health
  • Exploratory Experiences: physical education, vocal music, computer, art.

Middle School and Junior High Curriculum

St. Mark's middle, junior high, and college prep, curriculums provide students with an extensive breathe of knowledge to ensure success in higher education.

Middle School

Grades 5 and Grade 6 are on a block rotation schedule with three teachers teaching math, science, social studies, religion and language arts.

Specialty teachers and our librarian provide students with a well rounded academic program.

Basic Subjects: math, "Hands On Algebra", science, social studies, language, reading, writing, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, social studies, religion, and health

Fine Arts: art, vocal music, hand bells, and band

Exploratory Experiences: computers/technology, Chinese (5th grade), Spanish (6th grade), and art

Junior High

The junior high program consists of a nine period class rotation in a disciplined but flexible learning environment. Basic subjects are offered in a broader dimension at this level. Guidance and positive reinforcement are also emphasized because students at this age are making a difficult transition from childhood to adolescence, coping with enormous physical, mental and emotional changes. Academic performance is fostered, enabling each student to advance with dignity and understanding. Programs encourage development of personal responsibility and community service.

Basic Subjects: algebra, geometry, life science, physical science, ancient civilizations study, American history, literature, English, drama, finance, Spanish, and computers/technology

Fine Arts: art, drama, vocal music, hand bells, beginning, intermediate and advanced band

Extra-Curricular Activities, Grades 5-8: basketball, volleyball, flag football, track, drama, book clubs, newspaper staff, Math Counts Club, and yearbook staff.
